Diana Nyad was born in New York City,1949.She is an American author, journalist, motivational speaker, and World record long-distance swimmer. After she recovered, she entered Emory University but she expelled because of jumping out a fourth-floor dormitory by wearing a parachute. Reflection Task 2a (pre-primary education)
PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Pre-primary education is an optional education stage covering the education of children between 36 and 72 months. We know that pre-primary schools have many benefits for children whose personal and physical developments take any shape in early ages.Early Childhood Education provides significant long-term benefits for future learning and helps to ensure that students start school with the endowments needed for successful learning. However,in our country,pre-primary schools are seen so unnecessary that many families don't send their children these schools. The best solution to this problem is that educators or academicians should raise awareness and give conferences for public.I think if pre-primary education are compulsory education instead of optional education, education level can be much higher. We see that the enrolment rate in pre-primary education is 35 % for 2-4 age,43 % for 4-6 age in Turkey. When we look at developed countries, this rate is higher than Turkey. This problem is compounded by sharp differences in access across different socio-economic backgrounds. The government has recognized the need for more pre-primary education as coverage is low and unequal in Turkey.Pre-primary schools have to be widespread all over the country and authorities should expand the information campaigns about the importance of early childhood education.
Reflection Task 2b (video)
"Learning without Frontiers"
Education is really aimed at helping students get to the point where they can learn on their own. I think education does not mean only preparing students for exams.Education system must enable students to imagine,be creative, and explain their opinions freely. In addition to this, instead of accepting other's ideas,we must evaluate them.We should not limit our point of view and should be open to new ideas and changes. When teaching students,we had better attract students' attention by using interesting materials. Thanks to this, they can learn much better and don't forget what they have learnt.Technology also has effect on education.Technology in education is neutral. It can be positive or negative. If you know what you are looking for, the Internet can be very valuable. You have to interpret, evaluate, and understand what you find information on the Internet.Taking test can be useful. However, a person can do well on a test and understand very little.Teaching should be inspirig students to discover on their own, to challenge if they don't agree; to look for alternatives if they think there are better ones. In my opinion, the purpose of education is to raise individual's motion, to create conscious and more active people. To conclude, Noam Chomsky's opinions about education are very value and important. I think that a lot of people, especially teachers, should follow these opinions and transfer their student. If these are done, most people aware of the purpose of education.
